For the most part, these reluctant partners are doing the exact same things against the exact same enemies in the exact same locations. But it isn't long before they think of one: find a shuttle to get from this planet to the derelict Terra Nova, and then repair that ravaged spacecraft in order to make it back to Earth. All they know is that they've been stranded on the frozen surface of Tau Volantis and need to come up with a plan for what to do next. The pair of survivors aren't sure whether they're alive or dead at the beginning of this new chapter. The refocused emphasis on psychological terror is enough to reignite faith in the series for even the most jaded fan, especially since the final confrontation easily stands head and shoulders above the original fight with the moon.Without going into too much detail about the climactic events that capped off Dead Space 3, Awakened sees Isaac Clarke and John Carver waking up a bit worse for the wear. Gameplay is lifted straight from the original, including the co-op mode (albeit with a few clever twists), and fans of the series will find plenty to love here. There really isn’t that much to say about Dead Space 3 Awakened that isn’t obvious to see. This time around, the solo campaign is much smoother plotwise. Whenever Carver would appear and moan about his past, solo players could never sympathize. Although the co-op took center stage last time, single player wins out this round, providing an intense experience that doesn’t feel lacking as it did before. Aiming, shooting, stomping and smacking is still polished to a fine degree, weapon customization is the primary mode of survival, and various text and audio logs delve deeper into the story. In terms of gameplay, not much has changed from Dead Space 3.
